SSH Attorneys ranked in 2019 Missouri Lawyers Verdicts & Settlements list
The 2019 Missouri Lawyers Awards honor attorneys for their accomplishments in 2018. The winners are Missouri-licensed attorneys who scored the biggest civil victories in Missouri courts in 2018.
With a settlement of $1.51 billion, the nationwide class action lawsuit against seed company Syngenta is believed to be the largest agricultural settlement in U.S. history. Patrick Stueve was one of four co-leads to represent corn farmers in a nationwide class action lawsuit against Syngenta for prematurely and irresponsibly selling Agrisure Viptera and Duracade. Significant losses occurred to corn farmers across the country as a result of the 2013 Chinese rejection of U.S. corn for containing the Agrisure Viptera trait that was approved in the U.S., but not yet approved in China.
Stueve Siegel Hanson attorneys Norman Siegel, Ethan Lange, Lindsay Perkins, and David Hickey worked on case Vogt v. State Farm Life Insurance Co. – a class action brought on behalf of around 24,000 current and former owners of universal life insurance policies. After two hours of deliberations, a federal jury in Missouri found that State Farm systematically overcharged its policyholders for 23 years. More than $34 million was awarded to policyholders in the class action, making this case the fourth largest verdict in Missouri in 2018.
The winners will be honored at the Missouri Lawyers Awards on Jan. 25 at the Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis. The full rankings of the year’s biggest verdicts and settlements will be published in the annual Top V&S edition of Missouri Lawyers Weekly on Feb. 4.
