UnitedLex Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit
On September 29, 2023, Stueve Siegel Hanson and their co-counsel Bell Law and Wagstaff & Cartmell filed a class action complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas on behalf of five former employees of UnitedLex after they experienced tax fraud, identity theft, and account takeovers as a result of a data breach at UnitedLex.
UnitedLex is a data and professional services company based in Overland Park, Kansas that works with law firms and corporate legal departments in the areas of litigation and investigations, intellectual property, contracts, compliance and legal operations. In July 2023, UnitedLex started notifying current and former employees via mail that employment information was stolen and offered for sale on an online hacking forum.
The stolen information includes current and former employee names, Social Security numbers, financial account information, benefits information, and dependent Social Security numbers. The hacker selling this information claimed to have leaked over 200 GB of files and also claims to have confidential and proprietary information from UnitedLex’s clients. Dozens of current and former employees of UnitedLex have reported experiencing identity theft and fraud in the aftermath of the breach.
The lawsuit Krant, et al. v. UnitedLex asserts claims for negligence, breach of contract, and fraudulent concealment, among others.
