Law360 Profiles 2020 Titans of the Plaintiffs Bar Winner Norman Siegel
Stueve Siegel Hanson's Norman Siegel was profiled by Law360 following his recognition as one of the publication's Titans of the Plaintiffs Bar on May 26.
The article notes his high-profile 2019 work engineering the historic $1.5 billion settlement with Equifax in a nationwide class action resulting from its massive 2017 data breach; and successfully arguing before federal appeals courts, including scoring a Ninth Circuit reversal of a lower court's decision to grant summary judgment in favor of Experian Information Solutions Inc.
Following the remand, he secured class certification, leading to preliminary approval in January 2020 of a $24 million settlement – one of the largest ever secured under the FCRA.
The article also included quotes from co-counsel on what it's like to litigate alongside Siegel, his drive to address problematic industry conduct and bring about change. Among those include:
- "I think he's got a great intuitive sense of right and wrong, and his feel for cases that will resonate with the court and public is outstanding," said Daniel Girard of Girard Sharp, Siegel's co-lead counsel in consolidated litigation against Intuit.
- "Siegel has the ability to play the long game and stick to the righteousness of the mission, said John
Schirger of Miller Schirger, co-counsel in the recent trial in Vogt v. State Farm, a cost of insurance
case that resulted in a jury awarding damages of over $34 million to a class of 24,000 policyholders."
