Lawsuits Filed for Cost of Insurance Claims Against Life Insurance Companies
Stueve Siegel Hanson is currently prosecuting claims against life insurance companies for improper “Cost of Insurance” (COI) rate increases and overcharges in connection with life insurance policies which contain an investment, interest bearing, or savings component in addition to a death benefit. These types of policies are generally referred to as Universal Life Insurance, Flexible Premium Whole Life Insurance, Variable Universal Life Insurance, and Variable Whole Life Insurance.
These policies typically restrict insurance companies from including non-mortality charges or increasing cost of insurance rates unless the mortality expectations of the company have worsened. For most companies, the mortality expectations have improved over the last several decades and thus your rates should be lowered rather than increased. In addition, these companies maybe inflating your current COI rates with hidden expense loads in violation of the policy provisions. Our firm is prosecuting several lawsuits on behalf of policyholders alleging that insurance companies do not follow the terms of their policies when increasing cost of insurance and when inflating cost of insurance rates with undisclosed and unauthorized expenses.
SSH has filed lawsuits on behalf of policy holders against the following companies:
- John Hancock Life Insurance Company
- State Farm Life Insurance Company
- Kansas City Life Insurance Company
- USAA Life Insurance Company
- Sentry Life Insurance Company
- Security Life of Denver Company
- Connecticut General Life Insurance Company and Lincoln National Life Insurance Company
